The National Archives show my grandfather, Hiram Owen, enlisted as a 2 Lt in Capt. George Robert's Company, in the Battalion commanded by Lieut. Col. George N. Lester, from Aug 1, 1863 for six months. He was enlisted at Big Shantie (sic)

The next record shows Hiram Owen enlisting as a 1 Lt in Co. A, 7 Reg't, Georgia State Guards, for the months of Nov and Dec, 1863. The enlistment was at Big Shanty.

The third and last record shows Hiram Owen enlisting for the period from Dec 31, 1863 to Jan 31, 1864. The record states that Hiram Owen was elected on Dec 28, 1863, and that the term of service expired as this company was disbanded on Jan 31, 1864.

I have very little other information on this unit. However, my grandfather's obituary state's that he was buried with the uniform of a Colonel, and that there were several other Civil War attendees at the funeral. If you happen to run across the name of Hiram Owen, please let me know.
