19th Georgia Regiment, Co. K was organized in Cass (later Bartow) County, Georgia. The compiled service records for 19th Georgia appear to show at least three members in Co. K named Rainey (also spelled Raney) but the records are mixed together. The file for John M. Rainey also contains records for J. H. Rainey and J. W. Rainey. Similarly, the file for J.W. Rainey contains records for J. H. Rainey (& Raney).

If I’ve put things together properly, here’s how they sort out.
1)John M. Rainey – enlisted 6/11/61 in Georgia; killed at Mechanicsville, Va. 6/26/62
2)John W. Rainey – enlisted 2/24/62 at Occoquan, Va.; wounded in foot at Battery Wagner (Charleston, S.C.) 8/2/63; last record was receipt of pay at hospital in Florence, S.C. 2/1/65
3)J. H. Rainey – paroled as a prisoner of war 5/8/65 at Greensboro, N.C. On one clothing receipt listed as “Harison” Raney.
