Rebel Captain hung for murder

In the diary of Lt. Platter (81st Ohio Inf) on Shermans march mentions arriving at Kingston, Ga., on the 11th of November 1864 waiting to see a Rebel Captain hung for murder.

"the town was full of soldiers waiting to see a Rebel Captain hung who had murdered several soldiers of the 33d Ohio Volunteers - they were found in the woods hung up by the heels with their throats cut."

Any idea who this Rebel Captain might have been?
