Always nice to hear from other descendants of the 14th. Interesting story how he went to Texas after the war. I've found them buried all around the US. I try to document and photo all the grave locations that I find.

I always take deserter with a grain of salt when I read it. Many of these men were wounded multiple times and were absent in hospitals as the armies moved. The easiest thing was to mark them AWOL or deserted.

John Fox's book on the 35th Ga (14th was in the same brigade) provides a wealth of knowledge and information on experiences of the soldiers. I also have numerous diaries, letters, and period newspaper articles on the 14th. Co. H was from Laurens a few counties over from me.
