Thanks for the information. I looked up Edmonson on the NPS website and found

Capt. John Edmonson
30th Georgia
Co. H

Capt. Joseph A. Edmonson
44th Georgia
Co. G

The one in the 30th seems to be a better shot. The 30th fought in battles around Atlanta and Co. H was from Fayette County (Fayette Volunteers) This company became Company G, upon reorganization in 1862. Seeing your homeland torn to pieces could surely lead a man to do this.

I wasn't able to find the 30th muster rolls on line, so I'll just keep digging. Do you think that since Maj. Fox said he didn't have any mounted men in his O.R. report that the Edmonson he was after was calvary, or was it just a easier way of tracking someone down?
