In Response To: Merida Queen, 6th GA Cavalry ()

Roy,
Merida was my g-g-grandfather. I know he was born Aug. 12, 1845 and enlisted in April, 1863 at Sweetwater, TN. His regiment surrendered May 1, 1865 at Greensboro, NC. This information is on his Soldiers Pension Application. During this time he came home and was married to Elizabeth Brackett in Habersham County on July 29, 1864. He lived to the ripe old age of 85 years old and died September 11, 1930. He is buried in the Queen Family Cemetery in Blairsville, next to his wife.
Some of the battles that the 6th Calvary were in include: Chickamauga, Chattanooga Siege, Philadelphia, Knoxville Siege, Atlanta Campaign, Atlanta Siege, Savannah Campaign, and Carolinas Campaign. This information is from "Compendium of The Confederate Armies" by Stewart Sifakis.
I would enjoy any information that others on the message board have on the 6th Calvary or Merida.
Thanks,
Marty Queen
