Grand Pa's War Stories, written by E. H. Sutton of Co. K, 24th Georgia, gives an interesting account of the company's history. On pages 75-76 he mentions the fate of this soldier: "E. K. Field, killed the last one of Lee's army with a piece of shell a day or two before Lee surrendered. He is buried at Washington, DC."
