The middle initial of D. appears to be correct, according to the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database. Also, in the list of Confederate officers held at Johnson's Island, Ohio, a Lieutenant R. D. Carter appears who was captured at Gettysburg on 2 July 1863, and whose residence is cited as Walnut Grove, Georgia. Although the regiment listed for him is the 30th, it is an obvious error--the 30th Georgia did not serve at Gettysburg.
