Information regarding W. J. (thought to be William Joseph) WOODWARD/WOODARD Private Co. 'D' 23rd Georgia Infantry Regiment. (Company 'D' was formed in Gilmer County, Georgia). Enlisted February 12, 1864. Wounded in 1864. Admitted to Jackson Hospital at Richmond, Va.; wounded in right foot, July 9, 1864. Furloughed for 60 days from July 28, 1864. No later record. Family folklore has it that he was 13-14 years old when he went off to war. Are any enlistment records, pension applications, or any other records available which might confirm his age when he enlisted? Any information provided is appreciated.
