Haney came home to receive his parole at Bainbridge GA on May 22, 1865. Apparently his parole was misread as 5th rather than 3rd Georgia Reserves, and the additional record filed with the wrong regiment.
Haney appears on the 1880 census for Red River County TX. An older brother, Nathaniel A. B. Haney, also lived in Texas at that time. He enlisted at age seventeen in March 1862, serving with Co. "G", 6th Florida Regiment. After being captured on Missionary Ridge near Chattanooga TN, Nov. 25, 1863, he was sent to prison at Rock Island IL. While there Haney accepted an offer to leave Federal prison and enlist in the U.S. Navy.
Copies of both military service files are available here --
The sign pictured below has an incorrect date -- should read 1864 rather than 1865.
