Well I'll Be !! Howdy Cuz !! :>)
He was captured and sent north to Camp Chase . He was captured along with another cavalryman as It was said. I found in a passage of the 1st Ohio cavalry who was in the Lafayette area that day as capturing 3 rebels.
In 2002 I had a prayer service done at his grave site by an SCV camp in Ohio. They read a little a little speech and said a prayer over the grave. They also pla ced flowers and a Georgia State flag on there. The camp commander sent me Pictures and a little vile of soil and grass from his grave at the service.
He was born in Carroll county Georgia in 1828 and married Mary "Polly" Kelley , they of course had several children including my Grt Grt Grandfather Henry Clayton Smallwood .I have a picture of him and also he is mentioned in a couple of articles from the Trion Facts newspaper. Along with his death were 2 other brothers and a 3rd who was badly wounded. Their father moved to Kentucky right after the war and is buried up there in a little almost abandon cemetery. I hope this helps you some. I completed our family history about 3 years ago.
