Company G, 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry State Guards in the Gilmer Battalion commanded by Mayor D. M. West called into the service of the Confederate States for local defense . . . from the 1st day of August, 1863 . . . for the term of six months, unless sooner discharged, and to serve in the North/North Western
part of Georgia called and known as Cherokee Georgia. (. . . to serve in Fannin and Gilmer counties especially and the north quarter of the State generally)

D. M. West, Col. 87 Regt. G. M. [Georgia Militia?], Mustering Officer

Johnathan/Josiah J. Withero Captain Withrow's Company F (Silver Grays) joined for duty July 11, 1863

John Stone, Captain Company E (Mountain Guards) joined for duty July 11, 1863 at Carticay, Georgia

Captain John Kincaid Company C (Fannin Volunteers) joined for duty August 1, 1863 at Morganton, served

from August 1, 1863 to February 1, 1864

Captain E. M. Spriggs Company G enrolled for duty July 7, 183, at Eligay

Nat Mangum, Captain Company B (Fannin Guards), Fannin County, Light Infantry, enrolled for duty July 16, 1863

Captain D. M. West, Company D (Gillmer Guards, Gillmer County), West's Battalion Cavalry**, elected Major, n.d.,
