George,

His service record is under the name Lard. John E. Lard was the son of Andrew E. (1797 of SC-?) and Mary M. (Eddleman) Lard (1799-1863) and was born in 1833, Newton Co., GA. His brother, George M., also served in the 35th Ga. and both are buried in Hollywood Cemetery under the garbled surname Laird. HDS used Henderson's Roster and thus the surname Laird as you point out.
