This is very interesting. Captain Denman is also mentioned in the OR, although he is listed there as Captain Madison Denman. The federals came looking for him around Cassville after some members of Sherman's personal guard were attacked, captured an/or killed. An account of the burning of his house is listed here (my GG grandfather was one of the Kelley's that was picked up while they were looking for Denman.
