Lyle That is correct, the battery first commander was Sam DeGolyer who died at Vicksburg.

Elliott, Marcus D. Holly. Farmer by trade. Married. Birthplace New York Enlisted in Battery H, as 2nd Sergeant, October 22, 1861, at Rose, for 3 years, age 33. Mustered December 24, 1861. Commissioned Senior Second Lieutenant March 15, 1863. Mustered April 26, 1863. Commissioned Senior First Lieutenant August 8, 1863. Mustered November 1, 1863. Commissioned Captain January 8, 1864. Mustered May 1, 1864. Discharged at expiration of term of service at Louisville, Kentucky, December 22, 1864. Resided in Rose, Oakland, Michigan after service. After war elected State Representative from Oakland, County 1877. Died September 5, 1905.
