Believe he died in action with his command at Cummings Farm in Virginia.

L N. Barlow enlisted as a Private in Company B, 20th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers February 4, 1863 in Montgomery County, Georgia, transferred to Company February 12, 1863, without horse from May 30, 1864, present on August 31 muster roll, killed in action at Cummings October 1, 1864 "Entitled to Bounty. Mrs. L. W. Barlow, Mount Vernon, Montgomery County, Georgia, last paid February 29, 1864

His file contains correspondence between the War Department and the Georgia State Commissioner of Pensions dated June 20, 1916, they note he was also borne on rolls as L. N. Barbour

Record of Events, Company F, 1 April to 1 October, 1864, stationed near Reams Station

Troop left Georgia in April for the Army of Northern Virginia. Entered the campaign May 26, 64' since which time Troop has been almost continuously on the march. Has participated in the following engagements. Haws Shop May 27, 64', Travilliens Station 11 & 12 June, White House, June 20, 64', Nances Shop June 24, 64', Sassoni/Saponi[?] Chuch, 28 & 29, New Market July 16, 64', White Oak Swamps July 18, Rheims Station Aug. 25, 64', Cummings Farm Sept 29 & 30, Oct. 1, 1864. The records of events and entries touching [?] the State of the Troop includes Oct 1, 1864.

20th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry

8th Cavalry Regiment was organized in July, 1864, by consolidating seven companies of the 62nd Regiment and three of the 20th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers. It served in J. Dearing's Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia and was active in the Petersburg siege north and south of the James River and around Appomattox. The unit cut through the Federal lines at Appomattox Court House and disbanded April 11, 1865. Company G was attached to the Department of North Carolina and Southern Virginia, saw action in the Battle of Bentonville, and surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Its commanders were Colonel Joel R. Griffin, Lieutenant Colonel John M. Millen, and Major William G. Thomson.
