The 25th Georgia Battalion served as provost guard for the City of Atlanta. Officers and men probably fought hand-to-hand battles with Confederate soldiers on leave in the taverns and saloons. Following the Battle of Murfreesboro TN (Dec. 31, 1862-Jan. 2, 1863), Jackson's Brigade was sent to Atlanta. The only battle during this period of time was Cjhickamauga TN, Sept. 19-20, 1863.
