Phillips' Legion, Georgia Volunteers, was organized June 11, 1861, with an infantry battalion of six companies and a cavalry battalion of four companies: in May and June, 1862, three companies of infantry and two companies of cavalry were added. In March, 1863, General Lee, . . . . . Army of Northern Virginia, dissolved the connection between the two battalions and made each independent of the other without change of designation.
