Re: 19th Ga. "captured" flag - 14th TN
In Response To: Re: 19th Ga. "captured" flag ()

Hello,

While this listing is mostly right, there are several mistakes on it.

One, they have Jacob Cart of the 7th PA Reserves taking the flag of the 44th GA - it was the flag claimed as the 19th GA but is, in actuality, the flag of the 14th Tennessee. The 44th GA lost two flags in 1864 but none in 1862.

I have done extensive research into what flag was taken at Fredricksburg from Archer's Brigade and it was indeed the 14th Tennessee's, who were to the right of the 19th Georgia. For one, I have a 19th GA color bearer account that states he saved the flag; secondly, I have a flag requisition for the 14th TN for a flag in 1863 that states they needed it to replace the flag lost at Fredericksburg. I have more stuff but these two are more than enough to change the ID from 19th GA to 14th TH.

Hope this helps.
