The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Fact or fiction

During the year of 1864, a man from Atlanta, GA, calling himself "Moses", resided in Toronto, Canada. He visited the City of Troy, N.Y. to secretly obtain the drawings of the Burden (horseshoe) machines by which others could construct a copy of them in Atlanta. The story goes that Sherman's march through Georgia abruptly terminated the project. If true what was "Moses" real name? My Grandma told me this as her father worked in the mill and they where to keep their eye's open for strangers. Thank you for your help, Janie
