McGruder for the duration of the war, admitted to the Orange Hospital, Orange Court House, July 23, 1861, wounded in Chest, arm and hand, promoted 4th Sergeant, n.d., wounded at Fredericksburg December 12/13, 1862, died January 20,1863 of a gunshot wound fracture at the Gordonsville, Va. Receiving Hospital (aka Charity Hospital), his father, Houston Aycock of Americus, Sumter County, Georgia, filed claim for his pay & allowances November 26, 1863, his file contains correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department, with the Commissioner of Pensions, State of Georgia, dated July 2 & 12, 1915

* This company subsequently became Company A, 8th Regiment Georgia Infantry

Wm H. Aycock, 18 year old Farmer, born in Georgia, Private, Company A, 8th Georgia Infantry, enlisted at Rome, Ga. March 14, 1862 by Captain S. H. Hall for 3 years, admitted to General Hospital Camp Winder, Richmond, Va., June 13,1862 with Debilitas, returned to duty July 13, 1862, discharged for disability July 14, 1862, description: 5' 11", fair complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, the examining Surgeon found " ... him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of an injury received in the back, together with an affection of the kidneys & spinal irritation"
