I'm a bit perplexed now. The family story says my grandfather and his twin brother were in Ferrell's Battery, and their military cards indicate so.
Of course the story may have been told wrong over the years regarding the term "sharpshooter". Could sharpshooter possibly mean anything else in those times or in an artillery battery?
Or could have Captain Ferrell or his officers have personally made my grandfather and his brother sharpshooters for lookouts or scouts?
