Missing Confedederate Soldier

Has anyone run into this? Have 3 g-g-Uncles: David A., James and John Porter who enlisted the same day 9 July1861 at Antioch, Troup Co., GA into F., 21 GA. Officer was Capt. Boykin. Know the fate of David and James Porter BUT after the initial enlistment John Porter has disappeared. I can find no further record of this man. Sent to the National Archives and they sent me Military Papers for 2 separate John Porters but they are not mine. I cannot find him listed anywhere yet I know he enlisted. Is there any way I can find out what happened to him? The last record of him was 9 July 1861, he did not come back from the War. Both brothers died and are buried in VA. The family lived in Antioch and John Porter would have been 17/18 when he enlisted. Thank you for any help or clues you might have. Patt
