A Veteran Far Away

Editor Constitution

I am sixty years of age and have never written anything for publication, but would be pleased now if you will give me some space. I was very much interested in reading about Memorial Day in Georgia, my native state. My mind runs back to the sixties when so many of us boys and young men volunteered in defense of our southland, feeling that we were but doing our duty and I reckon the most of us yet living are of the same opinion now. I know I do not regret anything that I did, no have I at any time complained about the hardships that I endured while in service although I have been a bad cripple since the 17th day of September 1862. I was wounded at the battle of Sharpsburg, Md. I was a member of Company B, Nineteenth Georgia Regiment, and there are yet some of my old company in old Meriwether County, Georgia and perhaps some in other places, all of whom I would be glad to hear from once more in my life; and as I do not know the address of any of them, you will
please publish this little piece so they have a chance to write me.
