The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Book of Exodus

This week I ran across "The Book of Exodus, Containing an account of people sent South--their number and baggage, under Special Field Order No. 67 issued by Maj. Gen. W. T. Sherman, Atlanta, Georgia, September 4, 1864." 22 pages listing 442 families by name of head--705 adults, 867 children, 79 servants, total 1651 persons, with number of packages for each family and an occasional worn out horse. It is beautifully handwritten. The original is in the National Archives, and the scans are in Footnote.com starting at http://www.footnote.com/image/#1|32993282. This post is informational only--I thought there might be someone on this board that might be interested in such a remarkable document. I haven't found it cited very often, and certainly not in the original handwriting.
