I believe that one of my ancestors was a (pre-war) member of the "Clinch Rifles" of Augusta, Georgia. He lived in Augusta and moved to Atlanta: enlisting after Sumter with the "Jackson Guards" of Atlanta.

According to episode one of Ken Burn's The Civil War; only one member of the Clinch Rifles of Augusta, survived the war, a drummer

"Clinch Rifles" uniforms:

Pre-war militia: (1850's) Blue and white, shako hat
Pre-war militia/early war: Ca.1859-ca.1861) Green, kepi
later replaced by : Blue uniform , and later by Confederate gray

Private Newton Rice of the "Clinch Rifles" was killed at Murfreesboro on Dec 31,1862

His service record includes an index card entitled: General Orders No. 131/3
dated: Oct. 3,1863
Subject: Medal Of Honor
