George, thank you very much. I have ordered the specific record of Mitchell Mc Dawson. I guess it will show no more than you furnished in your reply. It seems he was sick in late 1863 but received an issue of clothing in March 1864. His last child, John W. Dawson was born in 1864. I assume he died sometime between 1864 and 1870 since his wife has apparently married David Darnell by census time. Unfortunately, I cannot find a census record for 1880. By 1900, John and his brother (Michael L. or L. M. as he was known in AL) and his mother were in DeKalb County, AL. They remained there until they died. I do not know what happened to a son, Ambrose, listed as 9 years old in the 1870. Nor do I know where Mitchel Mc. Dawson and son Ambrose are buried.
These are the woes of genealogy.
