As mentioned in the earlier post, members of this command rounded up deserters. William Palmer may have been "rounded up" himself, being absent without leave from Feb. 15th until June 28th, 1864. Also involved in scouting and picketing, Company "A" served in northeast Florida between Tallahassee and the St. Johns River. Company records report encampments as Camp Lamar Cobb (Dec 1863), and Camp Linton, Madison County, FL (Apr 1864). In the late summer of 1864 company members camped in Wayne County GA, later participating in the defense of Savannah. When informed of the surrender of General Johnston's army in North Carolina, soldiers went to the nearest Federal military post to receive a parole. Your ancestor received his at Thomasville GA, May 18, 1865. It includes a physical description which lists him as being five feet five inches tall.
