I am looking for any information on a Benjamin F. Martin. He was born in 1838 in Sparta...Hancock county, GA and served in the Confederate army for Georgia. We thought he was mustered in with the 6th Georgia infantry in Company K, but are unsure as all the records we just received say this Benjamin F. Martin died in 1861 shortly after he entered the army. However, we know our B.F. Martin didn't die until 1918. We know he entered the war in the beginning and served with Lee's army of Northern Virginia. Originally he try to enlist and was denied because one leg was longer than the other....so he put something in his boot to even them out and was then let in.

We do know he married a Mary Elizabeth Flury who had brothers who served in the Confederate army from Georgia.
