I am looking for information on private A.D. Crumley served in Company B, Avery's 4th Georgia Cavalry. Enlisted October 1862 and deserted at Cartersville December 1863. Was from Georgia. I have done a bit of research and have found a fare amount of bits and pieces. I have a bucket list as well. Would like to see a regimental history written on this regiment. I have many questions about it. I have read a few of Avery's works and his Georgia History. I am attempting to piece together A.D. Crumley's history by following information on the regiment itself. He fought at Chickamauga. Was a blacksmith and shoed horses and fixed wagons as part of his duty.

Avery's Regiment (with Company B) was apart of Wheeler's Raid around Rosecrans Army at Chattanooga. Captain May commanding Company B was captured at Anderson's Crossroads, indicating that A.D. Crumley as part of Company B was on this raid as well.

I do not have any further information on A.D. Crumley, but have read several accounts on this raid. Avery was later sent with Wheeler to Knoxville. There was some skirmishing but Wheeler reports that Avery's 4th Georgia was detached at this time and was not apart of the fighting at Knoxville.

A.D. Crumley lived near by, and deserted just before Christmas 1863. He had a wife and 2 children at this time. Armies were foraging and safety for his family was an issue. My Grandfather Jesse Claude Crumley Sr. had a home on the east slope of Missionary Ridge. My father and his brother and sister grow up there. My father said he and his brother would find buttons and mini balls in their back yard.
