These two appear to be from Little River, Cherokee County GA. James enrolled at Savannah on May 2 and left camp with a discharge on May 27, 1862. John enlisted on Feb. 27, 1862, but missed the fighting in northern Virginia and Maryland due to debility. On Jan. 19, 1863, he injured a hand in an accident on a railroad car. John H. Gaines received a discharge on May 17, 1863.
