Thanks for the kind reply. I have the information you have stated regarding A.D. Crumley. However, my information states that the name is spelled Crumley not Crumbly. It was received from a fellow researcher that applied to the National Archives for this information. Received was a photo copy of two muster rolls, one dated for the period of Nov. and Dec, 1863. Enlisted Oct 4, 1862, Murray Co. GA, by Capt May. for a period of 3 years. Was last paid by W.K. Moore through June 30 1863. No use or risk of horse was paid. States that he was absent - Remarks that he was detached to work on wagons.

The second muster roll states the same information with the difference being that there is no date for the period of this muster. The period of enlistment was simply "War". He was last paid by Capt. Moore.(same person different title) again through June 30, 1863. Under the section for remarks it then states " Deserted Dec. 20, 1863, Cartersville, GA.

I am not clear if this is where he deserted or was the place that we was first realized as absent. I believe he probably deserted more north and closer to home around this date. It was probably only then when in Cartersville GA. that a role was taken discovering he had deserted.

From this information, I believe he deserted at sometime during the period when the 4th Georgia Cavalry was near Knoxville, but was detached from Wheelers main force. I have inquired about this but have not yet received any information on the reason for the 4th being detached, as Wheeler stated in a report on Knoxville.
