Re: 3rd Confederate Cavalry Regiment, Company E
I have a copy of my 2nd GGF "Application for Admission into the Confederate Solders' Home of Alabama. He was 84 years old when he applied in 1917 and his handwriting is hard to read I will place a ? when it is hard to read Information he provided
Enlisted 8th of October 1861 Company "A" 3rd Confederate Cavalry.
Discharged April 26th 1865 Greensboro, NC
Officers Capt JT Hogue?, 2nd LT AL Decarns?, Major Sandusky, Lt Col John McCaskill, Col PH Rice (John Anderson & Joseph Wheeler).
Battles he lists many but are very hard to read but include Chickmauga, Kennasaw Mountain and more.
Question. Was it common to cross state line to enlist as his farm was located at Pond Spring Georgia close to where the Battle of Chickmauga was fought when he enlisted in Alabama in 1861?
