Re: Company G, 56th GA Infantry

I noticed that in your records the Company G of the 56th was from Cobb county. My kinfolk (Pvt.EliJah Green) was from Milton County and enlisted in the 56th Inf. Company G on May 2 1862 at the New Hope church in Alpheretta Ga. which at that time was in Milton County. Numerous places list this company as being from Cobb and Fulton but really it was from Milton Co. which was in existence at that time. It later became Fulton County when it was purchased by paving roads and other government deals. He was captured at Vicksburg and paroled. I do not know which battles he fought in later because the unit was attached to numerous other units. If you have any information on this unit I would like to hear from you. Thanks again, My GGGrandfather died in Temple Texas in 1886. Willie Gerald Green aka Jerry
