I am writing concerning the upcoming dedication of a new monument to Hood's Texas Brigade to be dedicated on May 19th on land near Richmond, commemorating the Battle of Gaines' Mill, in which Hood's Texas Brigade under Robert E. Lee defeated the Federal forces. This will be a Texas Historical Commission Battlefield Monument, a project that Hood's Texas Brigade Association, Re-activated initiated and has brought to fruition. The event is open to the public and descendants of the 18th Georgia would be particularly welcome, given that it was part of this battle!
