Re: 3rd georgia infantry battalion, co. c

Thanks for helping me out, George. I think now that I know that this is the right Joseph W. Stephenson. The one that I previously thought was my great-great-grandfather's brother has turned out to be a distant cousin of theirs from Franklin Co., Ga., which is where my Stephensons were from before settling in Coweta Co., near Newnan. I think that my Joseph W. may have died during the war being that there is no family record of him after the 1860 census. My great-great-grandfather, Thomas J. Stephenson, died from disease in April, 1863 in an army hospital in Chattanooga. I think it possible the same fate may have befallen Joseph W. By the way, the other Joseph W. was a member of the Tugalo Blues or the 15th Georgia Regiment and was captured at Gettysburg, later exchanged in March, 1865, and settled in Sumter Co., Ga. after the war.
