That's a tough question.

This may be more than you need, but here goes.

8Do you know for a fact that he died in the battle? If yes, he most likely was buried there. Then he was in a marked grave or unmarked. If unmarked, his burial site may not be confirmed. If marked, he like many others were removed from the battlefield and reinterred at the Marietta, GA Confederate Cemetery after the war. Unknowns were also buried there. I will check my list of known burials for his name.

The chance that he survived the battle, but died later would mean that he could have been buried near a field hospital, along the line of march from Missionary Ridge to Dalton to Atlanta or Macon or LaGrange. If Dalton, Resaca or along the line, he still may have been removed to Marietta. If Atlanta, Macon, LaGrange or elsewhere past Atlanta, check those locations.

There are cemetery lusts for Dalton, Resaca, and Griffin, Macon, & Marietta.

I also suggest that you contact Park Ranger, Lee White, Chickamauga directly. He has a large data base for casualties there.

To get a headstone you must prove his death location, date, and prove that he us not in a marked grave in a cemetery. We have obtained markers for unknowns who we have determined were probably removed to Marietta.
