I agree. Paul J. Semmes was known as a commander who truly led his men in battle. Even after his death at Gettysburg, the continuing high casualty rate during the rest of the War is a testament to the fighting spirit of the Georgians who followed the subsequent brigade commanders. Perhaps descendants of the 10th, 51st and 53rd regiments will take on the task of documenting the history of those brave Georgians. I was honored to be able to tell the story of my ancestors and other Wiregrass soldiers of the 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment.
