Sherman's march / Newborn Ga / gun emplacements?

Walking through our 130- year- old farm property, part of which is hilly and wooded, we discovered what look to be circles of lunettes (crescent-shaped mounds for artillery emplacement) around two of the hills. Below the (supposed) lunettes are what appear to be trenchlines, v-profiled ditches about 3 feet deep or so. We know from local history that Sherman himself stopped in the town of Newborn, about 2 miles to the west of this ground, probably for lunch (we are equidistant between Covington and Shady Dale); we are wondering if this could have been Union artillery emplacements to protect the east flank of the March's center, or part of some Confederate 'maginot line' scheme that was abandoned prior to Sherman?
