Thx George, You saw what I was seeing and I interpreted your number 1, 5 and 6 as different soldiers and not as our subject. The Confederate miscellaneous files are more times than not what some call cross-overs, that is more than one soldier. Sometimes we make things harder than what they are and perhaps he was just a private and a sub-enrollment officer for Walker County, Georgia as reported and enrolled men from his county and filtered them to Camp Instruction, at Decatur, Georgia. If we take a look at C.A. Allen's pay records he was paid a number of times and all of the officers who paid him were of Camp Randolph Instruction Camp #2. As an example Lieutenant Alfred Prescott who paid C.A. Allen at one time was listed as a Lieutenant and Drill Master at Camp Randolph and served as Acting Adjutant Commanding at Camp Instruction #2.
Many of the soldiers at Camp Randolph were conscripts and their boot camp if you will was at Camp Instruction #2. After learning the military ways they were generally assigned to military units for a year or so. Men like Private Charles A. Allen supplied the flow of conscripts to Camp Randolph as a sub-enrollment officer in Walker County, Georgia. That is my interpretation of what happened. If anyone can add additional information please jump in.
