James N. Williams, Capt. & A.C.S.

Does anyone know what happened after the war to James N. Williams?

He enlisted in Co. A, 19th Georgia Regiment as a private on 6/11/61 at Camp McDonald and was appointed Sergeant Major later that year. In 1862 he was acting adjutant of the regiment. He was mentioned for his intrepidity by General J. J. Archer in his report of the Seven Days battles, and for conspicuous gallantry in General A. P. Hill’s report of the Peninsula Campaign. He was appointed Captain and A.C.S. on 11/10/62 and ordered to the 19th Georgia Regiment, then transferred by Special Order 194 dated 8/15/63 to Office District Commissary Savannah, Ga. There he was appointed as an agent for purchase of commissary supplies for the Confederate government and assigned to the counties of Wayne, Glynn, Camden, Pierce, and Charlton. He was paroled 5/10/65 at Thomasville, Ga.; described as 5’8”, dark hair, blue eyes, fair complexion.

Williams may have been a resident of Pike County.
