Re: Nash Farm Battlefield closure; Henry County, G

Does Ms. Clemmons understand that the institution of slavery existed on the U. S. Continent long before the establishment of the United States of America?

At the founding of the U. S. A. in 1776, Section 9, Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States of America, prohibited the abolition of the Slave Trade before the year 1808, thus ensuring this importation at least 32 more years. The flag then flying was our present Stars and Stripes then in it’s current form.

The Confederate States of American was founded in 1861 by states who up to then was flying that flag, 85 years in toto, at which time the Confederate flag in many forms was raised. These flags flew for the next four years and removed on the surrender of the Confederate government in 1865.

Slavery throughout the entire United States occurred within a few months thereafter.

It has been estimated that, had not the Civil War occurred, slavery would have existed in the US another 20 years or so.

On might then contend, that the existence of the Confederacy spurred the premature end of slavery within the United States of America,

An additional thought, racial segregation was official policy another 60 years under the Stars and Stripes!

Perhaps Ms. Clemmons is offended by the wrong flag?
