Just came across your post about the five Benefield brothers. I am writing a history of Ferguson's SC Artillery Company. Note that the Federal POW authorities did not make a mistake about the unit. The "LA" in the unit's name stands for "Light Artillery" not "Louisiana." Yes, Rene Beauregard was from Louisiana, but that did not cause the Yankees to make a mistake. Otherwise, it was good to see your post and know that someone else has noted the sacrifice of this family. One wonders why the brothers decided to enlist in this particular unit.
