Thanks for info on J. E. Amaker whom you showed as one of names of the 7th So. Car. Cav that were paroled in Ga. Note not all of these were in Augusta. Amaker J. E. com B paroled 5/18/65 Augusta
I am trying to solve the mystery of the mysterious "Doctor Amacker" was who fathered a baby (Almore Amacker) in Washington Parish, Louisiana in 1869 with a former slave, Lucy, after the Civil War. He was said to have had an injury from that war and may have been a GA soldier who went to LA to visit his cousins while he recuperated. To have been called Dr. Amacker, I thought that he had probably been a medic in that war. I have long researched and tried to sort out Amakers and Amackers (my maiden name) in GA and in SC where immigrant Hans Amacker came from Switzerland in 1735-7. My Amacker soldiers in MS and LA have been very well documented and thanks to you have found the 9th from SC.
You volunteers have been so great in helping me find more info on my 4 great grandfathers who served. I owe you a big big debt of gratitude which I am trying to repay by helping others, including others whose ancestors you all have helped me with. Many thanks.
