After looking at the image, I believe with the others that this is a postwar image. It may certainly be of the veteran, but it may be of him in an organizational type uniform, the eagle on kepi was not a typical postwar Southern organizational badge that I have encountered. However some sort of fraternal order might be the case. I agree also that the buttons and coat appear to be post war.
