Capt. John W. Jones

I need a little assistance. A friend of mine has given me a task. He is trying to find out about his ancestor in the Confederate Army. This individual's name was John W. Jones. I have read Capt. Jones journal and letters home to his family in Grayson County, Virginia. Although Capt. Jones lived in Virginia, all his correspondence indicates he was a member of Hood's Division. None of the correspondence holds a clue to the individual's unit. There are only letters(no envelopes) and a journal, in which he makes entries addressed to his samll daughter, Mary,( My friend's grandmother). His journal indicates he was wounded, in the arm, at the Devil's Den on July 2, 1863 and spent time in a hospital. He recovered in time to rejoin the division for Chickamauga where he was wounded in the leg and was subsequently discharged from service. I have seen photos of this man and he is wearing a frock coat with Captain's insignia on the collar. I have also seen a post war photo in which he displays a right leg which appears to be somewhat shorter than the left. The only thing in the journal wich helps is he has written " J.W. Jones, CSA , My Journal"

Capt. Jones' tombstone, placed by the SCV, has this written on it

John W. Jones
Capt.
32nd Reg.
Tennessee Infantry
CSA

The is no evidence of a Capt. John W. Jones in the 32nd Tenn. so I can't explain how this happened to be. Neither can my friend. All our evidence indicates Capt. jones served in Hood's division in the ANV.

Any help would be appreciated.
