I do not pretend to be a great expert on Georgia reserves, militia, state guards, etc., but it is my understanding that the State Guards were raised under virtue of Georgia law for local defense, starting in 1863. Some of them were called into Confederate service during the Atlanta Campaign, but these units primarily were stationed near home. You can check in the pertinent supplement to the Official Records, and it may give information as to when the unit was raised, and where it servedduring the war. You are going to have to visit a pretty good-sized library to get the Supplements. They were printed by Broadfoot Publishing Company in the early 1990's, and ahve lots of good data.
