87th ????

I just read a diary from Lott Carley, who was in the 5th Iowa Cavalry. He was captured July 31, 1864 near Rock Mills, Alabama after having been with Gen. McCook and the battle of Browns Mill near Newnan, GA. In his diary he mentions that on August 1, they walked to Liberty Mill (this is really Liberty Hill) and had lunch with the 87th Confederates. It does not say 87th Ga., but he does mention that they ate with a Capt. J.T. Baggin, (this was in reality Capt. James Boykin, who we know for sure owned a large farm in Libery Hill) but I have no information on the 87th. Does anyone have any information on this unit??. I was thinking since we know about Capt. Boykin, and we know he was around his home, could this have been a group of home guard, or men that were to old or to young to have served in the regular army. I know someone will be able to set me straight, and as usual all information will be greatly appreciated. thanks, tom
