I didn't find him either. I think from the letter he probably was a civilian and went to help, being near to Dalton. I believe there was a big hospital there. Possibly he went after one of the battles. The letter states he came home some time later. I would post the letter, it is from the Ole Miss archives, is it OK to do that without permission? Interestingly, I went to search the 1870 census and the only county not on there was Walker county! How can I find out if John A Kelly was KIA? Thanks again for your assistance--John
