Jim,

My publisher, Butternut And Blue, should have a few copies left of my 31st Georgia regimental.

My area of expertise are the Compiled Service Records for Georgia units in the Army of Northern Virginia. My experience is the CSRs from the ANV are much more complete than those of Army of Tennessee units, such as the 5th Georgia. Why? Better record keeping? More frequent roll calls ? Fewer records lost? A combination of all three ?

In regard to newspaper accounts and casualty lists, the Georgia units in the ANV seemed to get more coverage and media space in the Georgia newspapers. The travelling war correspondents, usually soldiers themselves, can be found in a number of Georgia units in the ANV.

We in Georgia are fortunate in that we have near complete runs of the Macon, Augusta, and Columbus newspapers on microfilm, while Rome & Savannah are maybe 75% complete. Atlanta is sporadic. Most are on microfilm at the UGA library. The GA Archives has some in their collection.
